My name is Jeremy Cross, born in Langley (May 1993). A local boy from a good family and this disease took me, it doesn't discriminate.
I battled addiction for 7 years on the streets of Vancouver, my drug of choice was fentanyl and crystal. I was in and out of the legal system, I became something and someone I didn't know. When unimaginable things happened to me, I would think, I'm going to write about this some day if I ever get out of this rabbit hole.
It was incredibly hard to open "old wounds" so I could describe each event in such delicate detail. Reliving the trauma was difficult and emotional but I felt it was key for my readers to deeply relate and understand my thoughts and feelings.
I tapped into making it therapeutic rather then destructive.

I am now a certified Peer Support Worker and I want to prevent others from going through what I went through because unlike me, many don't make it out alive.

"Jeremy has fought addiction in a battle for his life.
His brave retelling of how he found himself in the grip of drugs and the dark underworld of Vancouver is nothing less than heroic. There are unspeakable nightmares for the people trying to survive addiction that exist right under our noses.
Jeremy's recovery and reunion with his family and his real self is inspiring.
If you or a loved one is looking for hope that recovery is possible, this is where you will find it."
"This book paints a fantastic picture of addiction and what the dark side of that world entails. My heart goes out to Jeremy, he's a survivor. I'm shocked by the events and I can't believe that's right here in Langley's backyard... Vancouver!
I would recommend everyone to read this book. it's beautiful written and will show other addicts that they too can embrace recovery and sobriety!
Thank you Jeremy for sharing your story to help the world!"
"My daughter is an addict and I thought that I wasn't doing enough to try and get her help as she's currently living...on the streets instead of home.
I blamed myself because I maybe don't have the money or resources to help her but after reading this book, I am so grateful for the clarity. I understand addiction or why an addict is an addict and it's so much more than "just a choice". I now understand that my daughter has to want to make the change and there's really nothing anyone can do until she's willing.
It's opened my eyes. Thank you for sharing your story, it's changed everything for me and my family!

Navigating addiction recovery and sobriety can be a deeply personal and challenging journey, but you don't have to do it alone. Peer support workers play a crucial role in helping individuals and families through these struggles, offering a unique and compassionate perspective that makes a real difference. Here are some key benefits of working with a peer support worker:
1. Lived Experience and Understanding
Peer support workers have firsthand experience with addiction and recovery. They know what it’s like to face the challenges of addiction, navigate sobriety, and rebuild their lives. This shared understanding creates a safe, judgment-free space where clients feel truly heard and understood.
2. Empathy and Encouragement
Because peer support workers have walked a similar path, they provide genuine empathy and encouragement. Their personal success stories demonstrate that recovery is possible, serving as a source of hope and motivation for those still struggling.
3. Practical Guidance
Peer support workers offer practical tools and strategies to help individuals manage cravings, build healthy routines, and stay accountable to their recovery goals. They also assist families in understanding addiction, improving communication, and offering meaningful support to their loved ones.
4. Bridge to Resources
Navigating recovery programs, healthcare services, or community resources can feel overwhelming. Peer support workers are knowledgeable about local services and can guide clients toward appropriate treatment options, support groups, and recovery communities.
5. A Sense of Community
Addiction often isolates individuals, leaving them feeling alone in their struggles. Peer support workers help foster a sense of belonging by encouraging clients to connect with others in recovery. This community-focused approach strengthens recovery and reduces feelings of isolation.
6. Accountability Without Judgment
A peer support worker is someone who holds you accountable in your recovery while understanding the ups and downs that come with it. Their role is to provide support and encouragement without judgment, helping you stay focused on your goals.
7. Support for Families
Addiction affects not only the individual but also their loved ones. Peer support workers can help families better understand the recovery process, heal from the effects of addiction, and rebuild healthier relationships with their loved ones.
8. Affordable and Accessible Support
Peer support services are often more accessible and affordable than traditional therapy or counseling. They complement professional treatment programs by providing ongoing support that fits into a client’s daily life.
9. A Beacon of Hope
Most importantly, a peer support worker serves as living proof that recovery is achievable. They inspire hope and remind clients that they, too, can overcome addiction and build a meaningful, fulfilling life.
If you or a loved one are struggling with addiction, having a peer support worker by your side can make a profound difference. Their lived experience, compassionate guidance, and unwavering support can help you navigate the path to recovery and build a brighter future.
